Initial travel consults are likely to require around 30 minutes to cover all your needs. There is a one-off gap on initial consultations but if further visits are needed, there are no further “out of pocket” consultation costs on subsequent appointments for the same trip.
Travel vaccinations are generally not covered by Medicare and will require separate payments.
The following fees apply to all patients not eligible for bulk billing. Patients are required to pay the full amount on the day of consultation (payments via EFTPOS or EFT only). For patients with Medicare, we will process your Medicare claim instantaneously and the Medicare rebate will be refunded to your nominated bank account, typically within 24 hours.
Bulk Billing & Concession Eligibility
Ideally 4 to 6 weeks before you are due to go overseas.
Even if you are travelling at short notice, it is never too late to come and get advice and allow you to be aware of travel health risks, avoidance strategies and treatment options if needed. Your departure date may influence the use of vaccines though.
It is recommended that you attend appointments together. Your teamwork can then assist in covering all the details needed and help you all get ready for your trip together.
The gaps then needing to be charged on the consultation fees will also be reduced.
Yellow Fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes and Haemagogus species. Yellow Fever virus has the potential to cause severe illness or death and is still common in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and South America. Some cases can also be seen periodically in Central America.
Whilst we do not have the Yellow Fever virus circulating within Australia, we do have the Aedes aegypti mosquito who would be able to “collect” the virus when biting travellers returning from overseas and then move on to share with others.
Both overseas as well as on return to Australia, you may be required to show evidence of Yellow Fever vaccination for border entry approval if you have travelled to a country with Yellow Fever risks.

Vaccination for Yellow Fever can be given in Australia for adults and children over the age of nine months.
Yellow Fever vaccine can only be administered by an accredited doctor in an approved Yellow Fever vaccination centre and is available currently at InHealth North Adelaide with Dr Kath Jamieson.
Yellow Fever symptoms typically develop 3 to 6 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito.
If you contract Yellow Fever, you may experience two phases of the disease. The first phase involves mild symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea and vomiting.
If the virus progresses to the “toxic phase”, more serious symptoms develop. These include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes, hence “Yellow Fever”), kidney failure, bleeding, and even death if left untreated. Up to 50% of people who enter the toxic phase may not survive without proper care.
Vaccination
With no specific treatment available for Yellow Fever illness, being vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and help prevent further spread of the illness to others. With the vaccine having been available since 1938, there is good understanding of its safety and effectiveness.
We now know that a single dose of Yellow Fever vaccine can give lifetime immunity for travellers.
Preventing mosquito bites
Ideally, we should avoid potential exposure to Yellow Fever (and other illnesses) by avoiding mosquito bites. Using the correct insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and staying in areas with mosquito nets or air conditioning can reduce the risk of infection. Discussing this further during an appointment for your vaccine can help guide you with the measures that are relevant to your travel plan.
If you are currently fit and well, all you will need to do is make an appointment. We will run through a checklist to ensure that the vaccine can be safely given to you.
If you have current health conditions which cause you concern for receiving the Yellow Fever vaccine, this will be fully assessed, and alternative options may be required.
To allow sufficient time for your Yellow Fever vaccine appointment, please note that for safety, you will be required to remain within the clinic for 30 minutes after the vaccine is given.
