ADHD Diagnostic Pathway
Dr Paul Bolton at InHealth North Adelaide is fully accredited to diagnose and manage ADHD in children and adults aged 12 and above. This means you no longer need to be referred to a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for the initial diagnosis or for regular reviews. Dr Bolton has been managing adult ADHD patients for several years and has several hundred patients currently under his care for this condition.

ADHD Diagnosis Fees

Dr Bolton’s fees are based on the Australian Medical Association (AMA) recommended rates for General Practitioners and are significantly more affordable than Psychiatrist or Paediatrician charges.

Medicare and overseas health insurance provide rebates for GP consultations based on the time spent. However, these rebates do not cover the full cost of this specialised service, so a gap fee applies to all patients, including children and Health Care Card (HCC) holders.

Note: Medicare rebates shown are for Level D consultation (40-60 minutes, MBS item 44) and Level E consultation (60+ minutes, MBS item 123)

Typical ADHD Diagnosis Assessment Costs

  • Two 45-minute sessions: Total cost $630, with Medicare rebates totalling $250.20, resulting in $379.80 out-of-pocket.
  • Three 45-minute sessions: Total cost $945, with Medicare rebates totalling $375.30, resulting in $569.70 out-of-pocket.

If you have already received a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician diagnosis and are looking to commence ADHD medication, a single 45-minute ADHD assessment appointment is required.

Ongoing ADHD Management Fees

InHealth North Adelaide

Once the diagnostic phase is completed, standard consultation rates apply for all follow-up appointments with Dr Paul Bolton. See InHealth North Adelaide Standard Fees.

Dr Cheng Chen offers ADHD management services (he does not provide diagnosis/assessment services).

InHealth Burnside

At InHealth Burnside, Dr Ranindu Abegunawardene and Dr Dulmini Silva offer ADHD management services (they do not provide diagnosis/assessment services). See InHealth Burnside ADHD Appointment Fees.

GP Referral Reports

If you choose to have your ongoing ADHD management provided by your own local GP rather than Dr Bolton, a comprehensive report must be prepared. This report:

  • Documents the diagnosis and recommended management approach.
  • Is required for special drug authority permits to be issued to your GP.
  • Takes approximately 30 minutes to prepare.
  • Costs $210 (no Medicare rebate available, as it is completed outside consultation time).

Important: Please confirm that your local GP is willing to prescribe ADHD medications before requesting this service, as many GPs do not provide ADHD management.

This report is not required if you will continue seeing Dr Bolton as your regular GP for ADHD management.

Appointment Deposits

Due to the extended duration of ADHD assessment consultations and the high demand for these appointments, a non-refundable deposit is required to secure your appointment time. This protects against non-attendance and ensures fair access for all patients.
